Send This To Ten Friends

Happy mid August from hot HOT (but dry) Las Vegas. Still plugging away at ye olde Peyote stitch. But I am looking around for other diversions. I'm now researching Chain Maille. For those that think it's sending out maille to ten friends and having them send it to ten friends...it's not. Basically you make chain by linking jump rings, small round rings, together. Let me tell you, I have seen some really beautiful work. I'm going to dabble in copper Chain Maille to start with and go from there. I do love the look of copper and I prefer the price over that of silver.

Here's an exceptional example from Esmarts own Joella at AlwaysWiredBeadLady.

Of course you'll find our current work in our Etsy shop, including the newest listing, the Red Windows Bracelet. Just for fun, we're trying a couple of items on Ecrater. Ecrater is another site where you can find some fun and fabulous creations. I learned of this from another Esmarty, Lois at A Beaded Affair. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I'd give credit and a link to that if I knew who to credit and if that person had a site or blog...but I'm guessing not.

  4. I love the look of chain maille but I seem to be all thumbs with jump rings. I even got a jump ring tool and still have trouble with them. Kudos to you for attempting it! And copper is my favorite color wire right now. Go girl! :-)

  5. Chain Maille is fun and beautiful and it won't take nearly as long as seed beading...but it does take a while if you use small rings. After seeds though, it will feel like a breeze. Your work is beautiful. Can't wait to see what you do with chain.

  6. Google says "nothing ventured, nothing gained" dates back to Chaucer (c. 1374) and possibly before that in French. Sounds like good old Ben Franklin to me and I don't think either of them have a web site. lol

  9. ROFL on the chain maille description! I like the little ring you have at the top - understated BLING!

Re: your rose bush- I do a hard prune in winter (winter prune: cut back all inward leaning branches, anything twiggy and cut down by about 1/3 height to an outward facing bud on a / ) a light prune in summer (dead head the flowers and cut back suckers and anything that is getting in the way). They say you can ignore rose bushes for a couple of years in the pruning department and some of my more 'delicate' looking ones only get a light prune in winter rather than a hard one. The pruning gives increased vigour to the plant so may be your problem. There are diseases that roses get (eg. black spot) and whilst fatal they don't look real pretty - leggy and the leaves go yellow/black before falling off. Other than that I will take a leaf from my friend's dialogue "When did you last feed it?" If you haven't done it (like me) in ages - give it some now!!
